Tuesday: Tigre.
We had a personally guided your of the town of Tigre, just half an hour north of BA. Our friend Andie's sister picked us up from the subte (subway) station and drove us. Tigre is a lovely getaway from the big city. Lots of stately homes on the Paraná river. Much of the town was quiet because it was midweek, but we walked around a small marketplace for a few hours before having a nice lunch.
Alin was a fantastic guide, with animated answers to all of our questions -- no matter how ignorant. Over lunch we got a genuine view of the complexity of politics and social movements in Argentina (all politicians are pigs). She also helped us understand how it's possible to eat dinner at 10 or 11 pm every night followed by dancing, and still be at work at 8 am. (The secret is not sleeping).
On the way home Alin took the scenic route -- which proved to be as challenging for her as it was novel for us.
We drove through tree-lined San Isidro and then saw the president's house in a neighboring suburb. Apparently, the president politely takes a helicopter to work, so BA's substantial traffic can't be blamed on her.
After a short siesta, we may try to see Evita's grave, which is said to involve multiple fake levels to foil grave robbers in Argentina of the Future.
